    1.The President inaugurated the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, said GST has made India a more tax-compliant society :-

    President Shri Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Indian Chartered Accountants Institute (ICAI) in New Delhi  (July 1, 2018).

    Speaking on the occasion, the President said that compliance with a proper taxation system is more than providing revenue to the government. This is part of the same social contract that strengthens our constitution.

     

    2.Total gross revenue of Rs 95,610 crore was collected in June 2018 as compared to Rs 94,016 crore during the previous month :-

    Total gross revenue of Rs 95,610 crore was collected in the month of June 2018 out of which CGST Rs 15,968 crore, SGST Rs 22,021 crore, IGST Rs 49,498 crore (including Rs 24,493 crore collected on imports) and Rs 8,122 crore (collection of 773 crore Rs). The total number of GSTR 3B returns filed for the month of May till May 2018 is 64.69.

     

    3.Mr. S. Ramesh took charge as Central Indirect Tax and Chairman of Customs Board :-

    Mr. S. Ramesh assumed charge as Chairman of the Central Indirect Tax and Border Tax Board (CBDC) on the retirement of Mrs. Vanja N Sarna today. He was a member (administration) in the board before his promotion.

    Mr. S. Ramesh started his career as a Central Excise in Mumbai and later as Assistant Commissioner of Mumbai Customs. He has worked in different positions at places like Hyderabad, Nagpur, Chennai, Trichy. He was Chief Commissioner of Customs Zone from Chennai from 2013 to 2016. After this, he took charge as Director General of System and Data Management. In September of 2016, he joined the board as Member (IT, Central Excise and Service Tax).

     

    4.As a remarkable achievement, India got its 37th World UNESCO World Heritage Site :-

    As another historic achievement , India’s ‘ Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Enables ‘ of Mumbai was listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.This decision was taken in the 42nd session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Bahrain’s Manama. As the World Heritage Committee recommended , India accepted the new name of Inseb’s ‘ Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Enables of Mumbai ‘

    India criteria (2) and (4) under , as has been determined in operational guidelines of UNESCO , ” Mumbai Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensemble “has succeeded in getting hammered in the list of property to World Heritage.

    This has become the second city in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, after Mumbai City, Ahmedabad.

     

    5.Ninth and final meeting of Group of Senior Individuals (EPG) concluded on Indo-Nepal Relations :-

    The ninth and final meeting of the Group of Senior Individuals (EPG) on Indo-Nepal Relations was concluded in Kathmadu last evening. The representatives of India and Nepal held discussions on various bilateral issues including the 1950 peace and friendship treaty, trade, commute and border in a two-day meeting.

    The Indian delegation included Bhagat Singh Kaushari , Jayant Prasad , Bhuvan Chandra Uprayi and Mahendra P. Lamba.

    Nepal was represented by Bakh Bahadur Thapa , Nilambar Acharya , Ranjan Bhattarai , and Sun Nath Upadhyay. Hope this group will present a report to the governments of their respective countries.

     

    6.The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the deadline for connecting PAN numbers to the base by March 31 next year :-

    Central Board of Direct Taxes- CBDT has increased the time limit for linking the PAN number with the basis of March 31, 2019. The CBDT issued the order on Saturday night. Earlier, the deadline was also extended in March this year. The government has extended the deadline for linking the pan with the biometric base identification number for the fifth time.

     

    7.Punjab National Bank costlier loan :-

    Public sector lender Punjab National Bank (PNB) has made changes in the rates of loans. Loan rates have been increased from 0.05 to 0.10 per cent for a fixed term. New rates will be effective from 1st July. In regulatory filing, PNB informed about the increase in marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR). According to filing, loan rate has been increased by 0.10 per cent to 8.40 per cent for a period of 6 months. For one, three and five years, rates have been increased by 0.05%. New rates for them will be 8.45 percent, 8.60 percent and 8.75 percent, respectively. Rates for one day, one month and three months will increase by 0.10 per cent, respectively, to 7.90 per cent, 8.05 per cent and 8.20 per cent respectively. Allahabad Bank has also announced increase in rates by 0.10 per cent. Rates for one year, two years and three years will be 8.45 percent, 8.65 percent and 8.75 percent, respectively.

     

    8.FIFA 2018: Croatia beat Denmark 3-2 in penalty shoot-out, 20 years later in quarter-finals :-

    The 20th ranked Croatian team entered the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after 20 years. On Sunday, he beat Denmark 3-2 in penalty shootout in the pre-quarterfinals. Earlier, Croatia’s team reached the semi-finals of the 1998 World Cup. The first match of the day also took place between two goalkeepers, while in the second match, the fight was seen between two goalkeepers. The match was equal to 1-1 in the set time and additional time and then the result turned out to be a penalty shootout. Now Croatia will face Russia in the quarter-finals. The performance of both the teams was good in the group stage matches. While Denmark played one win and two match draws at the group stage, the Croatian team made three consecutive matches in their favor. However, both teams were more defensive than the offensive in this match and played for 90 minutes.

     

    9.Koodal Pandya and Deepak Chahar join Indian team for T20 series against England :-

    Patra All-rounder Kunal Pandya and medium pace bowler Deepak Chahar have been included in the Indian squad replacing Washington Sunder and Jaspreet Bumrah, who injured injuries for the series of three T20 Internationals, which starts in Manchester on Tuesday. Krupal and Deepak have been picked in the team for the T20 series only, while Akshar Patel has been replaced in the squad for the three-match one-day series starting in Nottingham on July 12 in Washington.

     

    10.Maharashtra government launches ‘Kanya Van Samrudhi Yojana’ :-

    The Government of Maharashtra has launched a new scheme called “Kanya Van Samrudhi Yojna”, which aims at promoting women empowerment and tree planting initiatives. In this scheme, farmers will be given trees for plantation where the girls will be born.

    In the Ministerial meeting of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had approved this scheme, and had announced that the use of income from new plants planted under the scheme should be fully utilized for securing the future of girls. Will be done for. This scheme will be applicable only till maximum 2 girls in the farmer family. This scheme will encourage both women empowerment and plantation. For all the farmer families where the girls are born, the state government will provide free plants through the Forest Department and under this 10 plants will be provided to each farmer. Plants will be in a variety of varieties, including teakwood, mango, jackfruit, black berry and tamarind.

    It is being speculated that this plan will benefit about 2 lakh farmers households every year.

     

    11.Anjali Ela Menon, National Kalidas Respected Honor :-

    Madhya Pradesh government honored the famous artist Anjali Ela Menon (78) with the prestigious National Kalidas Award for his contributions to the visual arts sector. This award was given in various types of media in respect of their insightful and sensitive portrayal of the identity and spirit of women through their meaningful pictures.

    Anjali Ela Menon is counted among the most successful artists of India. Menon is one of the leading contemporary artists of India, along with being a famous muralist (painting on the wall). He has also been honored with several national and international awards including Padmashri. He has recently been honored with a doctorate degree from Ravindra Bharati University.

    National Kalidas Respect – It is a prestigious art award given annually by Madhya Pradesh Government. This award has been named after Kalidas, a famous classical Sanskrit writer of ancient India. It was first presented in 1980. It was initially provided in alternative fields in the field of classical music, classical dance, theater and plastic arts. Past recipients of this award are Pandit Ravi Shankar, MF Hussein, Pandit Jasraj, Shambhu Mitra, Habib Tanvir, Ibrahim Alakazi etc.
