1.Gas leak in coal mine in central China kills 18 miners :-

(I)A gas leak in a coal mine in central China has killed 18 people, local authorities said on Monday.

(II)The leak happened on Sunday morning when miners were working in the shaft of the mine in Youxian county in Hunan province, according to a statement from the propaganda department of the Communist Party committee of Zhuzhou city, which administers the area.

2.Vote in northern Germany a test for Merkel’s challenger :-

(I)Voters in northern Germany cast ballots on Sunday in a local election that will test the strength of the country’s Social Democrats as they try to deny Chancellor Angela Merkel a fourth term.

(II)The Social Democrats are trying to hold onto power in Schleswig-Holstein, where they have governed since 2012.

(III)A good showing on Sunday in the region with a population of 2.8 million would reinforce their prospects for challenging Merkel in the nationwide election on Sept. 24.

3.Fire continues to spread in Georgia wildlife refuge :-

(I)Firefighters were battling on Sunday to prevent a fire in a southern Georgia wildlife refuge from spreading, authorities said.

(II)The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge said in a statement that “extremely dangerous burning conditions persist” and that 11,000 acres (4,450 hectares) have been consumed by fire in the past two days.

(III)The unincorporated community of St. George is under a mandatory evacuation order and Charlton County schools have been closed for Monday. (IV)Wind gusts and dry conditions were raising the risk of the fire spreading.

4.Carbide-free mango sale opens at Delhi Telangana Bhavan :-

(I)Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar along with Aravind Kumar, Principal Resident Commissioner, Telangana Bhavan, New Delhi, on Sunday inaugurated a mango stall on the premises of Telangana Bhavan.

(II)The counter has been opened with a view to make available the best quality (carbide-free) ripened mangoes with an initiative of the Telangana State Horticulture Development Corporation Limited., in collaboration with eFresh Healthy Food Happy Life (Private) Ltd, according to a press release.

5.Emmanuel Macron wins French presidential election :-

(I)Pro-European centrist Emmanuel Macron resoundingly won France’s landmark presidential election, first estimates showed on Sunday, heading off a fierce challenge from the far-right in a pivotal vote for the future of the divided country and Europe.

(II)The victory caps an extraordinary rise for the 39-year-old former investment banker, who will become the country’s youngest-ever leader.

6.Israel-Germany row shines spotlight on anti-occupation group :-

(I)Former Israeli combat soldiers who were thrust into the centre of a recent diplomatic row between Israel and Germany, say the sudden international spotlight has given them a bigger stage to speak out against Israel’s 50-year rule over millions of Palestinians.

(II)Breaking the Silence is a group of former soldiers-turned-whistleblowers who view Israel’s open-ended occupation of lands sought for a Palestinian state as an existential threat to their country.

7.Japan’s SoftBank takes driving seat in Indian online shake-up :-

(I)After ploughing about $2 billion into minority stakes in Indian e-commerce businesses over the past few years, Japan’s SoftBank is upping the stakes, looking to play consolidator and take a more active role at a trio of leading start-ups.

(II)According to sources with direct knowledge of the matter, the solar-to-tech conglomerate is seeking to secure a piece of India’s industry leaders in everything from payment systems to online shopping and groceries, in a series of deals that would shake up the $65 billion sector.

8.Gujarat Lions dents Kings XI’s hopes :-

(I)It was deja vu in a bad way for Kings XI Punjab, as yet another 104 (60b, 8×4, 5×6) from Hashim Amla went in vain as it slumped to a six-wicket loss to Gujarat Lions.

(II)The defeat has now put a serious dent on its qualification hopes for the playoffs.

(III)If it was Jos Butler’s 37-ball 77 for Mumbai Indians in Indore that blunted Amla’s first ton, on Sunday Dwayne Smith finally found form at the top of the order bludgeoning 74 off just 39 balls with eight fours and four sixes.

(I)Former President Barack Obama returns to the spotlight Sunday to accept an award for political courage from the John F. Kennedy family, days after House Republicans won passage of a bill dismantling much of his signature health care law.

10.Two Jet Airways aircraft collide at IGI, grounded :-

(I)Air passenger carrier Jet Airways on Sunday grounded two of its aircraft after they were involved in a minor collision at the IGI airport here.

(II)An airport official said the incident occurred in the afternoon when the two aircraft, belonging to Jet Airways, brushed against each other while “taxiing out” to runway 29.

(III)The official said the passengers and crew on-board both the flights numbered over 200.

11.AAP bribe row: Ousted Delhi minister Kapil Mishra to approach ACB on Monday :-

(I)Hours after levelling allegations of corruption against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satyendar Jain, ousted Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra said he will approach the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Monday.

(II) “I will approach ACB tomorrow around 11 a.m. and register a complaint against Kejriwal and Jain I am not afraid of anybody.

12.Google’s success in American schools forces Microsoft, Apple to scramble :-

(I)Microsoft Corp.’s announcement of a suite of new education products on Tuesday shows the company’s determination to reverse a major shift that has taken place in U.S. classrooms in recent years: for most educators and school districts, Google’s Chromebook is now the computer of choice.

(II)The Chromebook has gone from a standing start in 2011 to wild popularity in the market for education technology, which tech companies have traditionally viewed as a critical way to win over the next generation of users.
