1.60 to be senior citizen age limit :-

The Union government wants its Ministries and departments and private agencies to adopt 60 as the age at the which a person is classified a senior citizen. This is to address anomalies in extending benefits to the elderly. The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry is planning to bring in an amendment to the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, to implement this change.

2.38 Indians detained in U.K. for visa breach :-

Britain’s immigration officials have detained 38 Indians, including nine women, for overstaying their visas or working illegally after raids were conducted in two clothing factories in the city of Leicester.

The U.K. Home Office Immigration Enforcement team raided MK Clothing Ltd. and Fashion Times U.K. Ltd. in the city in the East Midlands region of England last week and held 38 Indians and one Afghan man.

3.Most BJP states buying Deendayal Upadhyay works in bulk :-

At least four BJP-ruled states — Assam, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh — have decided to follow the lead of Haryana and Rajasthan, and are in the process of buying copies of a 15-volume collection of works by Jana Sangh founder Deendayal Upadhyay.

4.Now apply for passports in Hindi :-

The Ministry of External Affairs has made a provision enabling people to apply online for passports in Hindi.

The move comes after President Pranab Mukherjee recently accepted recommendations made in this regard by the Committee of Parliament on Official Language through its ninth report. The report was submitted in 2011.

5.Mehbooba Mufti asks CMs to reach out to Kashmiri students, PM Narendra Modi backs appeal :-

In view of the attacks on Kashmiris studying in colleges in various parts of the country, especially in Rajasthan and UP, J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti asked chief ministers attending the Niti Aayog meeting in the capital Sunday to reach out to Kashmiri students in their states.

According to a statement issued by Niti Aayog, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  “seconded the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s suggestion that states should take interest in the students from her state who are studying in other states”.

“He urged states to reach out to these students from time to time,” the statement said.

6.Manipur stares at fuel crisis again :-

Manipur is likely to face a fuel crisis once again as the Kangleipak Communist Party People’s War Group has threatened to block plying of oil tankers along the two national highways passing through the State to fetch fuel from Assam.

7.Ronnie Screwvala launches Rs 100-crore scholarship fund for online education :-

Entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala has launched Asia’s first and largest Online Scholarship Fund with a first closing of Rs 100 crore and a target of Rs 400 crore in the next three-four years, according to a press release. The initiative will start with an initial corpus of Rs 10 crore from Screwvala and will grant scholarships ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2 lakh. It will facilitate loans for those that do not qualify for scholarships but would repay once they get promoted post their online studies.

8.Now, Australia wants a LEMOA :-

Australia has put forward a proposal to have a logistics support agreement with India on the lines of the one concluded with the US. However, yet to take a call on it, India has said that it would first like to get the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Understanding (LEMOA) with the U.S. operational.

9.Maharashtra credit society under I-T scanner for Rs 900-crore ‘laundering’ :-

A MULTI-STATE urban co-operative credit society from Maharashtra is under the scanner of the Income Tax department after a probe found that it allegedly laundered Rs 900 crore in what officials claim is large scale tax evasion and money laundering by entities and individuals through banking channels between February 2015 and March 2017.
