1.New York Times criticises Yogi Adityanath’s appointment as UP CM, India hits back :-

India on Friday reacted sharply to a New York Times editorial, criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move to name Yogi Adityanath as Uttar Pradesh CM.

 

2.SoundCloud raises $70 million in debt :-

Music-streaming service SoundCloud Ltd said on Thursday it had raised $70 million in debt from Ares Capital, Kreos Capital and Davidson Technology.

The funding is to meet the company’s expected 2.5 times year-on-year revenue growth in 2017, a company spokeswoman said.

 

3.India questions NYT’s wisdom to criticise Adityanath becoming CM :-

India reacted sharply to The New York Times’ editorial criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s choice of Adityanath Yogi as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and said the paper’s wisdom to write such a piece was “questionable”.

 

4.Delhi Police register FIR against Shiv Sena MP :-

On Thursday, the MP repeatedly hit a 60-year-old Air India officer with his slippers.

The Delhi Police registered an FIR against Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad on Friday. He was booked under sections 308 and 355, amounting to culpable homicide and criminal assault.

 

5.Under new contract, Rahul Dravid has to choose between BCCI and IPL :-

India Under-19 and India A coach Rahul  Dravid will have to choose between country and franchise from next season as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to come up with a new annual contract for its coaches, support staff and physiotherapist.

 

6.SEBI slaps RIL with Rs. 447 crore disgorgement order over RPL :-

The Securities and Exchange Board of India has issued a disgorgement order of ₹447 crore against Reliance Industries Ltd. on charges of insider trading in Reliance Petroleum Ltd. (RPL) in 2007.

 

7.Sports Ministry clears move to make doping a criminal offence :-

The Sports Ministry has cleared a proposal to make doping by athletes a criminal offence, in sync with laws that govern the usage of narcotics, senior officials of the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) and the ministry told The Indian Express.

 

8.Tallest Tricolour hits rough weather in Attari, replaced twice in two weeks :-

The country’s tallest Tricolour, flying at 355 feet from the ground at Attari near the border with Pakistan, has run into rough weather. Costing Rs 1 lakh a piece, the 120 ft-by-80 ft flag — weighing 125 kg and including a 5-ft base — has been replaced twice since it was hoisted for the first time on March 5 after its fabric was damaged by strong winds.

 

9.Live Cricket Score India vs Australia 4th Test Day 1: Border-Gavaskar Trophy at stake in Dharamsala :-

India and Australia could not have set up the season finale in a better way. The four-match series is tied 1-1 and the final match is to be played in Dharamsala which will decide which team will take the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

 

10.Aadhaar now needed for mobile connection :-

The Department of Telecommunications on Friday issued a notification, directing all phone service providers to reverify details for all existing subscribers through Aadhaar-based e-KYC (Know Your Customer) process.

Chandu Chavan, a soldier with 37 Rashtriya Rifles who was released by the Pakistani Army as a goodwill gesture in January recounted to the media on Friday.

 

12.Centre seeks banks’ turnaround plans :-

The Finance Ministry has written to 10 public sector banks, including IDBI Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, United Bank of India, Andhra Bank and Indian Overseas Bank, making it clear that the lenders would only get further capital infusion once they submit a time-bound turnaround plan.
