modi-rajapaksa_650_0527141108021.Liberty House open to acquire residual assets of Tatas in U.K. :-

Sanjeev Gupta, the head of the Liberty House Group, which last week acquired Tata Steel’s speciality steel operations in the U.K. said he remained open to acquiring the steel giant’s remaining assets in the country should the opportunity arise.

Tata Steel is currently in talks with German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp over the merger of its European steel operations — centred around its Port Talbot plant in Wales — though talks have been held up by concerns about pension liabilities on both sides.

2.Pakistan shelling: Two relief camps set up in Rajouri :-

JAMMU:  Authorities have set up two relief camps in Rajouri district as Pakistani troops today resorted to shelling on civilian areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, killing a woman and injuring two others. “Two relief camps have been established in Nowshera where 50 persons comprising around 15 families have been settled,” Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, said here today.

District administration has also earmarked additional camps which may be required in case of further ceasefire violation. The shelling has affected five-six hamlets along the LoC including Sheri Makeri, Namakdali and Khamba since last night.

 

3.Russian interference in elections is a made up story, says Trump :-

President Donald Trump has said the allegation made against him that the Russian interference in elections helped him win, is a “made up story” by the Democrats who lost badly last year.

In his first sit-down interview after firing FBI Director James Comey, Mr. Trump said he had already made up his mind even before he was recommended the same by the US Attorney Jeff Sessions and his Deputy.

4.Uttar Pradesh govt refuses sanction to prosecute CM Yogi Adityanath in 2007 Gorakhpur riots case :-

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday informed the Allahabad High Court through an affidavit that it would not grant sanction to prosecute Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in the Gorakhpur communal riot case of 2007.

The riots were sparked allegedly after a provocative speech by Adityanath, the then local MP, over the killing of a Hindu youth in clashes between Hindu and Muslim groups during a Moharram procession.

5.Modi meets Rajapaksa :-

In an apparently unscheduled, late night meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo on Thursday.

The meeting was at the ex-president’s request,  Indian High Commisioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu told reporters here.

The meeting comes ten days after a parliamentarian close to Mr. Rajapaksa called for a black flag protest around Mr. Modi’s visit.

6.U.S. airline laptop ban may extend to Europe :-

The Trump administration is likely to expand a ban on laptops on commercial aircraft to include some European countries, but is reviewing how to ensure lithium batteries stored in luggage holds do not explode in midair, officials briefed on the matter said on Wednesday.

Any expansion of the ban could impact U.S. carriers such as United Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc. and American Airlines Group. Six U.S. and European officials said they expect the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to make an announcement but declined to say when.

7.Acting FBI chief promises to disclose any attempt to stall Russia probe :-

The FBI’s acting director Andrew McCabe promised on Thursday to tell the Senate Intelligence Committee of any effort to interfere with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe into links between Russia and the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

“I absolutely do,” acting FBI Director said, who leads the agency following President Donald Trump’s abrupt firing of former director James Comey on Tuesday, told the committee, which is also investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

8.Brazil declares end to Zika emergency :-

Brazil has declared an end to its public health emergency for the Zika virus on, 18 months after a surge in cases drew headlines around the world.

The mosquito-borne virus wasn’t considered a major health threat until the 2015 outbreak revealed that Zika could lead to severe birth defects. One of those defects, microcephaly, causes babies to be born with skulls much smaller than expected.

9.Snapdeal closer to Flipkart deal :-

The board of Snapdeal has reached “a broad consensus” over a possible sale of the e-commerce firm to rival Flipkart, according to sources.

Snapdeal’s largest shareholder SoftBank, which had already secured a nod from founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal and co-investor Kaalari Capital, has now succeeded in bringing investor Nexus Venture Partners (NVP) on board, a source close to deal said. NVP had, till now, resisted the deal proposed by SoftBank on differences over valuation.

10.Azhar Ali hits century as Pak all out for 376 :-

Pakistan opener Azhar Ali made his second century of the series as they batted into a strong position on the second day of the third test against West Indies in Dominica on Thursday.

Azhar laboriously ground out a patient 127 in a marathon stay at the crease before Pakistan were finally bowled out for 376 in their first innings at Windsor Park in Roseau.
